Two suspects have been arrested with 7,990 gelignite sticks weighing over 998 kg, which was illegally imported from India and were hidden in a house in Mannar.
Police said the Mannar Police and STF personnel raided the house at Shanthipuram in Mannar following a tip off received from Navy Intelligence.
A suspect was arrested with gelignite explosives while another man in Wangalai on suspicion of importing the explosives into the country.
The suspects aged 55 and 59 are residents of Shanthipuram and Wangalai are being held under detention orders and Mannar Police are conducting further investigations.(DSB)
