The Colombo Stars franchise of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) will reportedly be revamped under former Sri Lanka skipper Angelo Mathews, NewsWire learns.
Sri Lanka’s Softlogic Holdings PLC took over the ownership of the franchise a few days ago.
The franchise under the previous owners had picked a controversial squad during the LPL Players’ Draft, with many questioning the reason for disregarding senior and prominant players.
Many, including former Sri Lanka skipper Mahela Jayawardena had questioned the move, following which the owners of the franchise were removed and were replaced by a Sri Lankan company.
Chairman of the Softlogic Holdings PLC Ashok Pathirage has now taken ownership of the Colombo Stars franchise.
According to sources, the new owners are looking to revamp the entire squad under former Sri Lanka skipper Angelo Mathews and several other senior Sri Lankan cricketers.
Several senior Sri Lankan cricketers who were left out of the initial LPL Players’ Draft will be playing for the Colombo Stars.
The team is most likely to be headed by Angelo Mathews, who had also captained the Colombo franchise in the first edition of the LPL.
When inquired in this regard, a Senior Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) official refused to confirm the move, claiming a decision will only be taken in a few days time. (NewsWire)
