SJB protests in Parliament:Claims its supporter killed by police | Sri Lanka News

Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) legislators staged a protest inside Parliament holding placards and shouting slogans alleging that the police have assaulted and killed one of their supporters.

They also accused the police of preventing some of the MPs from coming to Colombo yesterday to attend the protest they held.

They alleged that public security minister Sarath Weeraskera was resposnble for the alleged murder at Panamure police station. “Sarath Sarath Jangi Sarath'' the MPs chanted while holding placards.

Minister Weerasekara, who refused allegations of the suspect's death inside Panamure police station, said the suspect had committed suicide inside the police cell.

“He has been arrested following a complaint by his daughter claiming that he had assaulted her. He is a drug addict and was arrested at 10.30 pm last night. His arrest is not connected to the SJB protest,” he said.(Yohan Perera and Ajith Siriwardana)
