Police Media Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa stated that legal action will be taken against the organizers of the protests and demonstrations violating the health laws.
He said that investigations had already commenced in this regard.
The SJB organised protest was held in Colombo yesterday (16) as planned. It commenced from near the Opposition Leader’s Office.
The protest was organized against the rising prices of essential commodities, including gas, milk powder, rice and vegetables, as well as the hardships faced by the farmers due to the lack of fertilizer. It was also against the government’s repression of the people.
The protest was held under the theme ‘People’s force against the cursed government’.
The protestors marched to the Kollupitiya roundabout and then gathered at Galle Face.
Later SJB Leader Sajith Premadasa arrived and addressed the protestors.
Meanwhile, it was reported that many people who had come to Colombo from far out areas to participate in the Samagi Jana Balawega protest had to turn back due to police interference, the SJB activists said.
