The Dambulla Municipal Council Health Division has found a container of potatoes unfit for human consumption in a private warehouse near the Dambulla Economic Center.
The potatoes had been imported from India and women were in the process of removing the sprouts from these potatoes to be sent for sale to the market when the authorities had raided the warehouse.
According to the Municipal Council Health Division officers, the container was carrying over 40,000 kg of potatoes and most of it was rotten and oozing.
It is said that the raid was carried out by the Municipal Council Health Division on a tip off received by Dambulla Mayor Jaliya Opatha.
