TNA Batticaloa District MP – Shanakiyan Rajaputhiran Rasamanickam has questioned why MPs who enter parliament to serve the public need a pension.
Joining the debate of the second reading of the Budget in Parliament today (15), he has said that pensions already given to former MPs too, should be abolished.
He said that he, who is aged 31, do not want a pension.
However, Mr. Rasamanickam said that MPs could resort to more corruption if the pension was abolished. He added that such a plan had been discussed during a recent discussion.
