A discussion is to be held today (15) between the government partners regarding the support for the budget.
It is reported that the discussion is to be held this morning (15) Meanwhile, SLFP leader and former president Maithripala Sirisena said that a decision will be taken at a party Central Committee meeting on whether to support the budget and whether to continue with the current government.
He was responding to a question posed by a journalist at a function held at the Subodharama Temple in Peradeniya.
He further said that no one in the party would take individual decisions on such issues, adding that as a party that respects democracy, it would take decisions only after collective discussion.
Responding to a media query regarding the pension of former presidents, Maithripala Sirisena said that there was no problem with the cuts in pensions, adding that he would agree to forfeit his pension if the people would benefit by it.
SLFP decides to contest alone!
Meanwhile, it is reported that it was unanimously decided at the SLFP Anuradhapura District meeting yesterday (14) that the SLFP should contest the next election alone.
This meeting was held yesterday under the patronage of the SLFP National Organizer State Minister Duminda Dissanayake.
The State Minister had said that despite the President being elected with the strength of the SLFP as well, it is questionable as to whether the SLFP is treated properly or not within this government.
