The University Of Colombo Science Teachers Association (UCSTA) issued a statement expressing their disappointment over the appointment of Ven. Muruththettuwe Ananda Thero as the Chancellor of the university.
Issuing a statement, the UCSTA pointed out that although the role of a university chancellor is largely a ritualistic one, the person appointed to it must have a reputation and qualifications to assist in advancing the university’s reputation and credibility nationally and internationally, as well as professional and personal integrity.
They further stated that as such, the UCSTA is greatly perturbed by the recent appointment of Ven Muruththettuwe Ananda Thero to the post of Chancellor of the University of Colombo. “We believe that the Thero’s association with a well-known trade union and his Political affiliations will not be helpful for advancing the Universities’ interests within the local, national and international spheres and express our extreme disappointment in this appointment.”
