The budget proposal that the President and MPs should serve for a period of ten years to be entitled to receive a pension had been proposed by young MPs in the ruling party, said Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa, expressing his admiration to them.
He said this during a press conference held in Colombo today (13).
He noted that 40 percent of the government MPs are young members.
The Minister of Finance stated that the pensions of the Members of Parliament should be adjusted by a new Act and that he expects the support of the Members of the Government as well as the Opposition in this endeavor.
Meanwhile, senior journalist and political analyst Kusal Perera, had said on a Facebook post that the only important proposal he sees in the 2022 budget is the increase of the number of years served to 10 years for eligibility of their pension.
