Sri Lanka’s Disaster Management Center said five people died due to extreme weather in Sri Lanka.
Two people were injured while another is reported missing.
The DMC said 4,391 people from 1,143 families were affected.The Meteorology Department stated that the extreme weather conditions will continue.
Landslide warnings extended
Meanwhile, the landslide warning issued for several Divisional Secretariats in 08 districts has been extended until tomorrow (08) afternoon.
Accordingly, landslide warnings issued for some areas in Badulla, Galle, Kalutara, Kandy, Kegalle, Kurunegala, Matale and Ratnapura Districts will continue to be in effect.
Spillgates opened
Amid the continuing rain, the Spill gates of the Kothmale reservoir were opened.
In addition, 03 spill gates of the Lakshapana reservoir were also opened due to extreme weather.
Authorities informed residents of low lying areas to be vigilant as the water levels of the Castlereigh and Maussakele reservoirs have reached their spill level.
