Justice Minister Mohamed Ali Sabri had handed over two letters of resignation to President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa yesterday (05) announcing the resignation of from his post as Minister and Member of Parliament.
However, the President had refused to accept his resignation letters.
He had taken this decision in protest of the nomination of Ven. Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera for the post of Chairman of the Presidential Task Force.
Sabri had pointed out that opting to appoint such a task force to make laws for the country, when there are specific law-making bodies in the country, would create unnecessary problems and said he was not impressed with the appointment.
However, the President has said that this task force was appointed to advise him and not to make laws in the country.
The President has also stated that the Minister of Justice will definitely be involved in the formulation of laws.
