Colombo Chief Magistrate Buddhika C. Ragala yesterday (05) directed the CID to file a complaint against Fr. Cyril Gamini under sections 164 and 174 of the Ceylon Penal Code for disobeying the orders of government officials.
The magistrate made this order taking into consideration that Fr. Cyril Gamini had failed to comply with the orders of the CID to record a statement with regard to the allegations he made during a media briefing pertaining to the Easter Sunday terror attacks. The CID had requested Fr. Gamini to report to the CID on two occasions to record a statement for their investigations based on a complaint lodged by the Head of the State Intelligence Service General Suresh Salley.
CID Police Sergeant Palitha Sarath Kumara, appearing before the court, stated that he had visited St. Anthony’s Church in Negombo on two occasions and informed Father Cyril Gamini.
Accordingly, the CID requested the court to issue summons to Fr. Cyril Gamini to appear before the CID and give his statement in view of his absence.
The magistrate directed the CID to confirm the earlier notifications to the court through affidavits and then an appropriate order would be given.
