The Criminal Investigations Department's Illegal Assets and Property Investigation Division siezed four more vehicles worth over Rs. 80 million belonging to Ruwan Chamila Prarasanna alias Dematagoda Ruwan and Dematagoda Chaminda who is serving death sentence for the murder of former MP Bharatha Laksman Premachandra.
Police Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said the officers recovered a land rover jeep and a vessel belonging to Dematagoda Ruwan while a BMW vehicle and a Land Cruiser jeep belonging to Dematogoda Chaminda's wife.
Earlier, the CID arrested Dematagoda Ruwan under the Money Laundering Act. They also recovered four luxury vehicles worth over Rs. 180 million during a raid at the suspect's house at Veluwana Terrace, Dematagoda.
The Police also seized one and a half kg of gold during the raid.
Police suspect that those vehicles and gold jewelry were allegedly purchased with the money earned from drug peddling.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that Dematagoda Ruwan had smuggled over 1,000 kilos of drugs into the country during previous years.
He was remanded till November 5 after being produced before the Colombo Magistrate's Court.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
