Commercial Bank faces murder charges | Breaking News

The Business Protection Council has accused the Commercial Bank, Mathugama Branch of acting in a manner that caused the owner of Mathugama Bhupani Traders (Pvt) Ltd Somasiri Fernando distress, which led him to commit suicide.

They claimed that he was upset that the Commercial Bank of Ceylon’s Board of Directors had taken steps to take over Fernando’s property and the relevent action was published in the newspapers, despite the government and the Central Bank suspending such action for six months causing him severe stress and dispersion which led him to commit suicide.

Prior to the death of the businessman, the Sri Lanka Mirror also pointed out that the Commercial Bank of Ceylon had violated the recommendations of Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal with cabinet powers through their notice published on the 29th.

This was revealed when Sri Lanka Mirror contacted the Chairman of the Local Business Protection Council, Mahendra Perera.
